Gay, Brown Lead Lady Jackets Past Clinton
STARKVILLE - The combo of senior Jada Gay and junior Zariah Brown combined for 35 points in Starkville's 65-31 win over Clinton in region action at The Nest on Thursday night.
The game which was moved up a day due to the potential of winter weather moving through the state on Friday, didnt affect the Lady Jackets after playing on Tuesday night. It was another balanced offensive attack for SHS after 10 different players had their name in the scoring column on Tuesday against Germantown. Head coach Matt Willbanks was able to play 14 players on Thursday with 9-of-the-14 scoring points.
Gay posted a game-high 21 points in 25 minutes of action. She finished the game 9-of-14 from the field and pulled down six rebounds. Gay added a block and a steak to her stat line. Brown collectred 15 points, including nine points from three-point range. She recorded five rebounds and dished out a team-high four assists.
SHS raced out to a 24-10 lead after the first quarter and took a 20-point, 41-21, lead at halftime.
Senior Morgan Williams added seven points, while junior Yasmine Roberts contributed seven points off the bench. Senior Jade Blair and junior Logan Warren added five points each.
The Lady Jackets return to action next week with visits to Madison Central on Tuesday (Jan. 27) and Oxford on Friday (Jan. 30).
