Starkville Moves On To Championship Contest
OXFORD - After a slow offensive start, Starkville put together a 21-point second quarter to break open the contest for a 48-23 win over Clinton in the semifinals of the Region 2-7A Tournament on Thursday.
With the win, the Lady Jackets move on to the championship game on Friday against No. 2 seed Madison Central, who dispatched host-Oxford in the other semifinal contest. Tip off is set for 6 p.m. at the OHS Gym.
Both teams swtruggled to make baskets in the first eight minutes with a 6-3 score after the first period. SHS stretched the lead to 27-6 at halftime. The Lady Jackets extended the lead with 14 points in the third quarter.
Senior Jada Gay was the lone Lady Jacket to record double figures in the scoring column with 10 points. Gay was 5-of-12 from the field in just 20 minutes of action. She added five rebounds and three steals. Junior Zariah Brown finished with seven points as she keyed SHS's second quarter scoring spurt. Brown turned in four assists and three steals.
Junior Logan Warren added seven points, while junior Yasmine Roberts contributed seven points off the bench.
